NATIVE AMERICAN RUINS: On the allotment is one of the largest pueblos in an area that scholars identify as Las Salinas Province. Pueblo Colorado contains twenty-one "apartment houses" or room-blocks, trash dumps, and a large kiva. Its walls were made of local limestone and red sandstone. "Pueblo Colorado" is Spanish for "red village." Hundreds of people once lived here. The village was abandoned in the mid-16th century. COMMENTS: The Torrance County Ranch is scenic yet low enough in elevation to make this a great year round cattle ranch. Annual precipitation is approximately 15 inches.
